元マンU監督のデビッド・モイーズが、23日、ついに解雇はじめてコメントを出した。
まず、ファンやスタッフ、前監督のファーギーらに感謝の気持ちを伝えた。
しかし、選手たちへの感謝の言葉はなかった。
やはり彼と選手の間にはいろいろあったのだろうか。
今までの報道では、解雇にあたって50歳のこのモイーズは、スタッフらに挨拶をしたが、選手たちへの挨拶があったのかどうかが明らかになっていない。
スタッフへの感謝部分はこうだ。
In my short time at the club I have learnt what special places Old Trafford and Carrington are. I would like to thank the United staff for making me feel so welcome and part of the United family from my first day.
クラブでの短い間に多くのことを学んだ。僕を歓迎してくれ、家族にしてくれたスタッフに感謝したい。
次にファンへ
‘And of course thank you to those fans who have supported me throughout the season. I wish you and the club all the best for the future.’
そしてもちろん、シーズンを通してサポートしてくれたファンに感謝したい。クラブの未来が輝くことを願っている。
次にファーギーへは、能力を信じてくれたことの感謝。
そして…選手にはやはりない。
彼が声明で語ったのは、彼が直面した巨大な使命。
マンU監督に任命されたことは光栄だったが、「巨大なスケールの使命」がファーガソンの残したチームにはあったのだ。
それはどうやら、チームの若返りだったらしい。
ヴィディッチ、エブラ、ファーディナンド、ギグスといった年配者を切り、チームを完全に新しいものに作り替えること。
わからなくはないが、それを彼は就任間もないアジアツアーで披露していた。
急ぎすぎだろう。
当然、ウェルベックやヤヌザイを使ったチームは結果を出せなかった。
モイーズ解雇後の声明全文
To have been appointed as manager of Manchester United, one of the biggest football clubs in the world, was and remains something of which I will always be incredibly proud.
世界有数のビッグクラブであるマンチェスターUのマネージャーとなって、信じられないほど光栄だったし、今後も誇ることができる。
Taking charge after such a long period of continuous stability and success at the club was inevitably going to be a significant challenge, but it was one which I relished and never had a second thought about taking on.
クラブの長い安定した成功のあとで任されることは、 当然重要なチャレンジとなった。それは楽しみだったし、後悔したことはない。
‘The scale of the manager’s job at United is immense, but I have never stepped away from hard work and the same applies to my coaching staff. I thank them for their dedication and loyalty throughout the last season.
ユナイテッドでのマネージャーの仕事は巨大だったが、そのハードワークから逃げることはなかった。コーチングスタッフも同じだ。私はシーズンを通しての彼らの献身と忠誠心に感謝している。
We were fully focused and committed to the process of the fundamental rebuilding that is required for the senior squad. This had to be achieved whilst delivering positive results in the Barclays Premier League and the Champions League. However, during this period of transition, performances and results have not been what Manchester United and its fans are used to or expect, and I both understand and share their frustration.
私たちはチームの基礎部分の再構築に集中したが、これはプレミアとチャンピオンズリーグで成績を残しながら達成させなくてはならなかった。しかしながら、移行の途中でのパフォーマンスと結果はマンチェスターUのファンが期待していたものではなかったし、どちらの不満も理解できる。

I have always believed that a manager never stops learning during his career and I know I will take invaluable experience from my time as United’s manager. I remain proud to have led the team to the quarter finals of this year’s Champions League and I remain grateful to Sir Alex Ferguson for believing in my ability and giving me the chance to manage Manchester United.
私はいつも監督業は学びの連続だと信じている。そして、マンU監督として経験はかけがえのないものとなるだろう。チャンピオンズリーグでクオーターファイナルまでチームを導いたことを誇りに思っているし、サー・アレックス・ファーガソンが自分を信じてチャンスをくれたこと、マンU監督へのチャンスをくれたことを感謝している。
