近親相姦の哀しみを歌詞に託したアイリッシュトラッド〈the well below the valley〉です。

主人公の女性は地主の娘。
彼女は本当の恋を知らぬまま、6人の子供を産み、子供たちはパブの下に埋められるというストーリー。

「真実の愛を知れ」という戒めの意味で、アイルランドの結婚式で唄われるそうです。（とあるアメリカ青年の話より）ヨーロッパの人でもどうしてこの歌が結婚式で歌われるのか、疑問に思う人は多いとのこと。
